Counselling at Summerland Middle School

The middle school years are a time of tremendous change for our students. As they move into adolescence, they experience shifts in their emotional life, friendships, interests, thinking skills, and physical maturity. Sessions are confidential, and available through self-referral, or by referral from teachers or parents.

Some of the common concerns include:

In addition to individual counselling, at times referral to community agencies such as Child and Youth Mental Health, is recommended.  A school-based Child and Youth Mental Health worker may meet with students at the school on a weekly basis, after the intake process is completed.

Other roles of the counsellor at Summerland Middle include:

Ø      Gossiping/Bullying intervention

Ø      No 2  Meth drug abuse prevention

Ø      Peer tutor training
